AT&T Wireless Home Phone (Nothing to do with Oracle Stuff)

I was in the AT&T store recently helping my dad pick out a new iPhone when I came across the AT&T Wireless Home Phone system. It’s that little box right with the antennae (obviously I got one).

Pros:
  • it’s portable (I can take this device with me and connect to any regular phone),
  • it can be added to a family plan for $10.00/month or unlimited talk for $20.00/month,
  • comes with same features as any other cell phone,
  • it combines a bunch of crap I had doing the same thing in a nice package, and
  • since it operates over the AT&T cellular network, I can associate it with a Microcell (that upside down ‘Y’ device.) … and yep that’s an Oracle Linux background on the monitor.
Cons:
  • you need a cordless phone system.  The kind with the single base station and multiple handsets to get the best usage,
  • it is on the AT&T network so location is important (hence my Microcell),
  • the Caller ID function only shows the number. Name appears if stored in your phone, and
  • you have to sign a contract to get it free
Been testing it out for about a month now.  Just forwarded my home phone to it, but plan to port the house number over soon.  I’ll update this with pictures of what I used to have later.
And to make sure there is enough Oracle related content:
CONGRATULATIONS to my friend +chet justice AKA +ORACLENERD for achieving the Oracle Ace Director designation.  A great accomplishment, and about time!!!
