Okay, it’s been a minute since I have been on here, but I have a legitimate excuse. Servers … Servers … Servers. Not to mention just meetings about HFM, Planning and Public Sector Budgeting, OBIEE, and some other stuff, but tonight I’m here to talk about ….yep, servers. Well what about them? Quick and dirty answer. Ask questions so you get it right the first time.
When building your hardware infrastructure, think about how you are going to migrate from a development environment to your production. Typically you are going to have at least three (3) instances or environments (Development, Test or QA, and Production). If you have the funds, make them all the same, but that’s not really necessary, and that money can definitely been spent on something better. Give your staff a raise. They’ll love you for it. Anyway, the lesson that should be learned from today is ask your consultants or technical team more questions. Remember, they are working for you and at the end of the day, you have to live with what you get so make it worth it.
I’m headed to Oracle OpenWorld 2012, so look for more in a couple of weeks. Looking forward to catching up with some of the great people I met at KScope this year.
